El Cazador de la Bruja

From the makers of Noir and MADLAX comes El Cazador de la Bruja (The Witch Hunter). I myself have actually been anticipating this one for a while.
The story involves a bounty hunter named Nadie who comes to this town in search of a small girl named Ellis (Elise?) who has a bounty on her head. Unlike the rest of the bounty hunters in town who want to kill her and turn her in, Nadie is patient with the girl, and by request of an old woman whom Ellis had been taking care of, she (Nadie) agrees to protect Ellis. Ellis wants to head south in search of something, but she is not sure what. She knows that there is a bounty on her head because she is a “murderer,” but she does not remember the details behind the murder.
At its core, this anime is quite similar to its predecessors. It revolves around the journey that involves an older and younger female. Like her counterparts (Mireille from Noir and Madlax from MADLAX), Nadie is very skilled with a gun. You can see how this all kind of ties together.
The scenery remind you less of Noir and MADLAX and more of Trigun or a less futuristic Cowboy Bebop. The character designs are nice, and the animation is fluid. As expected of a series by the makers of Noir and MADLAX, Yuki Kajiura is the composer behind this project. Unfortunately, in the first episode at least, there isn’t a lot of noteworthy pieces, and it doesn’t help that the OP and ED are decent at best.
The story has plenty of potential, and since I loved Noir, I’m going to try and stay optimistic on this one.
Recommended for fans of the action genre and the girls-with-guns subgenre. If you liked Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, or Coyote Ragtime Show, you may like this El Cazador de la Bruja.
